Nainital : Under the Amrit Festival of Independence, 75 lakes of ten thousand cubic capacity will be constructed under Mission Amrit Sarovar in the district. The area of each pond is fixed at four hectares or one acre. Preference will be given to the village of freedom fighters in the selection of lakes.
One government, one community in-charge will be appointed for each lake site. The foundation stone of the lake will be laid by freedom fighters, their family members or Padma awardees or the eldest person. Guidelines have been issued in this regard from the district level.
In a meeting held under the chairmanship of DM Dhiraj Gabyal in the district auditorium on Thursday, directions were given to the officers. CDO Dr. Sandeep Tiwari informed that a flag hoisting program will be organized on Independence Day in every lake.
Donors can also donate for the construction of these lakes, which will be mentioned by placing a sign board at the selected site. Geo-tagging of each lake will be done in three phases. Various departments of the district will work in this. So far 40 sites have been selected by the Rural Development Department.
DM has instructed other departments to select the site by May 16 and send it immediately. Along with this, every division of the forest department has been instructed to make available the selected list to the CDO office, giving a target of construction of at least ten lakes.
