New Delhi : Terrorist activities have increased in Jammu and Kashmir for some time. In such a situation, in order to weaken national security and terrorism, the central government has increased the scope of BSF (Border Security Force) in 3 states. These three states are Punjab, West Bengal and Assam.
How wide is the range?
Earlier, the BSF could conduct search operations and operations within 15 km of the border of Punjab, West Bengal and Assam. Now after the decision of the Central Government to increase this scope, the BSF can search and take action within 50 kilometers of the border of these three states. Along with this, the BSF also has the power to arrest suspicious people and seize suspicious items. For this, BSF will not even need to take permission of any administrative officer.
Reason for expanding
The reason for the expansion of the BSF in Punjab, West Bengal and Assam by the central government is that the three states have international borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Congress and Akali Dal objected to the decision of the central government
Congress leader and Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has termed the Central Government’s decision to increase the coverage of BSF as wrong and against the federal structure of the Constitution. On the other hand, Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal has called it a collusion of the Center and the Punjab government. Akali Dal leader Daljit Singh has called it an abuse of constitutional provisions and an attack on federal principles.
Amarinder Singh supported
Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has supported this decision of the Central Government. Amarinder Singh said that smuggling of drugs and weapons has increased in Punjab due to Pakistan-backed terrorism. In such a situation, the situation in Punjab will improve due to the expansion of BSF in Punjab.
