Indian Railways has launched Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 71st birthday and Vishwakarma Puja. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav launched this scheme simultaneously in 75 railway training institutes of the country. Under this scheme, in the initial phase, 50 thousand youth will be trained in 4 trades. These include the trades of fitters, electricians, welders and machining.
Through Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana, Railways will make these youth technically skilled by 2024. They will be trained in Railway Training Centers. Launching the scheme, the Railway Minister said that these skills would be very relevant. This skill training will be available in remote areas apart from cities. The selected participants from across the country will get 100 hours of training.
Other trades will also be added to the training
Based on the assessment of the regional demands and needs, the Railways will provide training in other trades as well. In the coming days, trades related to signaling, instrumentation, concrete mixing-testing, rod bending, electronic card replacement will also be added to the training programme. Urban-rural youth will get the benefit of this.
Youth will get these benefits from training
10th pass and people between 18 to 35 years will be able to take this training. After the training, the youth will also get a certificate of training, which will make it easier for them to get Group D jobs coming out of Indian Railways. This scheme will improve the employability of the youth. It will also make them skilled for self-employment.

At present, training is given to the youth under ex-apprenticeship by the Railways. In this they also get scholarship. Earlier apprentices used to get jobs in Railways, but now only those successful in Railway Recruitment Board exams get jobs. Apprentice youth get about 30 percent relaxation in railway exam.
