New Delhi : In India, ‘Made in China’ means a product which is not only cheap but also of poor quality. This is the reason why ‘Made in China’ products are not given importance in India, especially when there are all safety related issues. Nepal has also understood this thing after Sri Lanka, why Indians call ‘Made in China’ cheap and substandard. Nepal had bought 6 airplanes from China by taking loan and now these ships have become a burden for it. Nepal may not have earned from them, but it has shed money like water in maintenance. Now Nepal has termed these ships as unfit and junk, which is nothing less than a shame for China.
Talking to a British newspaper, an official associated with Nepal Airline said, “We are facing technical problems in the operation of these aircraft. Spare parts are not readily available and repairing aircraft is expensive and time consuming. Piloting these aircraft requires pilots with specific skills that we lack. There are pilots in China but training of pilots in Nepal is not possible due to language barrier.”
Giving further information, the official said, “We approached China for help, but there was no response from their side. The Board of Directors of Nepal Airlines meets daily to discuss training of Nepalese pilots, but we are yet to take a decision on this.”
Nepal’s airline suffered losses
Actually, Nepal Airlines has banned the flight of six planes made in China. Nepal says that this ship is not flyable, because it is costing more than the earning. Nepal’s airline has suffered a lot from Chinese planes. Nepal’s airline says that they cannot afford to fly these planes, so their operations were stopped.
Nepal Airlines has said several times that since the acquisition between 2014 and 2018, the Chinese-made planes were incurring heavy losses. Now he does not want to bear further damage, so its operation was stopped.
Nepal is also struggling to pay off the debt it had taken to buy these ships. Only China has benefited from the aircraft taken from China, while Nepal has suffered only and only losses.
Nepal bought 6 airplanes from China by taking loan
Nepal bought 6 Chinese aircraft, 2 Xian MA60S and 4 Harbin Y12S aircraft in the year 214 by taking loans. The Government of Nepal has to pay an annual interest rate of 1.5 percent to the Chinese side for these ships.
Apart from this, 0.4 of the total loan amount taken by the Ministry of Finance for this, service charges and management expenses are also to be paid by the Government of Nepal to China. Along with these planes, the operation of many Chinese ships was stopped by Nepal in the year 2020.
