West Bengal : Famous Bengali singer Nirmala Mishra, who enthralled the audience with the magic of her voice for several decades, passed away on the morning of Sunday, July 31. He said goodbye to the world at the age of 81 due to heart attack. Nirmala Mishra was a very popular playback singer. He lent his voice to not only Bengali but also Oriya songs. The singer, who lent her voice to several Bengali and Oriya films, was battling age-related ailments for some time.

Nirmala Mishra was living in Chetla area of South Kolkata for a long time. It was here that he breathed his last. Born in 1938 in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, Nirmala Mishra was awarded the Balkrishna Das Award. His popular Bengali songs include ‘Eamon Ekta Jhinuk’, ‘Bolo To Arshi’ and ‘E Banglar Mati Chai’, while some of his hit Odia songs are ‘Nida Bhara Rati Madhu Jhara Janha’ and ‘Mo Man Bina Re Taare’.
After the death of the singer, his fans can pay tribute to him. Expressing grief over the death of the singer, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of Nirmala Mishra.” Apart from the CM, many other celebrities and her fans also paid tribute to the late singer on social media.
Expressing grief over the demise of Nirmala Mishra, BJP leader and MP Dilip Ghosh tweeted, “Saddened by the passing away of the legendary singer Smt. Nirmala Mishra. Her many timeless songs have given a new dimension to the golden age of Bengali music.”
BJP Orissa State Vice President Bhrigu Baxipatra tweeted, “Deeply saddened at the passing away of renowned singer Nirmala Mishra at the age of 81. She was the recipient of the Sangeet Sudhakar Balkrishna Das Award. Her contribution to Oriya music will always be remembered. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family.”
BJD MP Sujit Kumar tweeted, “The demise of legendary singer Nirmala Mishra is a great loss to all music lovers of Odisha. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Prayers for the departed soul.”
Singer Indrani Sen said, “I grew up listening to his songs and used to sing his songs in radio programs. Nirmala Di was a great person and a very funny person too. Unfortunately, she had been ill for a long time. I am very sad to leave.”
Let us tell you, Nirmala Mishra was given the first opportunity to sing in the year 1960 by music director Balakrishna Das. He first sang a song for the Odia film ‘Shri Loknath’.
This song became a super hit song. After this Nirmala Mishra sang songs for back to back Bengali films. Nirmala Mishra has also sung many songs for the Odia film industry. Not only this, he has also sung many songs in Assamese language, one of which is the famous song ‘Ki Naam Di Matim’.
