New Delhi : In the case of indecent remarks on people with ‘Modi title’, relief to former Congress President and MP Rahul Gandhi will continue till further orders from the Jharkhand High Court. Hearing on Rahul Gandhi’s quashing petition was held in the court of Justice Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi of Jharkhand High Court on Monday.
In the court, the counsel for the petitioner has sought time citing health. Till the next hearing, the court has given an extension by upholding the order restraining the coercive action against Rahul Gandhi.
During the hearing, the arguments of both the parties were presented in the court. Advocates Piyush Chitresh and Dipankar appeared on behalf of Rahul Gandhi in the court. Now the next date of hearing has been fixed for July 15. Actually, this matter is the derogatory remarks made against all persons named Modi in the address made by Rahul Gandhi at the rally at Morhabadi ground in Ranchi during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Taking the names of Narendra Modi, Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi in his speech in this rally, Rahul Gandhi said that all those who have Modi in front of their names are thieves. The trial court had issued summons against Rahul Gandhi in this matter. In the year 2019, a complaint suit was filed against Rahul Gandhi by a Ranchi-based advocate Pradeep Modi in the local civil court. In which he has been accused of derogatory remarks against persons with the title Modi during the campaign for the Lok Sabha elections.
Pradeep Modi has said in his complaint that the remarks made by Rahul Gandhi against all Modi with the title Modi are condemnable, painful and heart-wrenching. He has also filed a defamation case of Rs 20 crore against Rahul Gandhi, after which the Ranchi Civil Court issued summons to Rahul Gandhi. The Ranchi Civil Court had issued summons against Rahul Gandhi and ordered him to appear in the court.
Against this order, former Congress President and MP Rahul Gandhi has approached the Jharkhand High Court and filed a petition and appealed to quash the proceedings of the Civil Court. At the same time, the matter was heard in the court today. Now the date of next hearing has been fixed as July 15.
