Mumbai : Sanjay Raut, a very close and trusted leader of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case. On Sunday, the ED took into custody senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut after a lengthy interrogation. Sanjay Raut will be taken to JJ Hospital for medical in sometime and then will be produced in the court.
Shiv Sena protest against ED’s action on Sanjay Raut
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut has been arrested in a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in the redevelopment of a chawl in Mumbai. The ED team had raided Sanjay Raut’s ‘Maitri’ bungalow in Bhandup at 7 am yesterday. After a day-long interrogation, Raut was arrested around 11.30 pm.
On Monday, Shiv Sena raised this issue in Parliament and they also got the support of Congress. Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi had given adjournment notice in Rajya Sabha for urgent discussion on the issue. Priyanka Chaturvedi alleged that ED, CBI, IT are being misused in the country. He first demanded a discussion on this issue in the Upper House.
On Raut’s arrest, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge said, “This government wants to suppress the opposition, if there is a property issue, there is a law for it and take action under it and not go to his house and inquire for 6 hours.” There is harassment and talks are on to eliminate the opposition.
The Congress leader alleged that he wants Parliament to be opposition-free so he is doing so but Sanjay Raut will fight legally and he will say whatever he has to say.
At the same time, Shiv Sena workers in Maharashtra are also angry with the arrest of the party leader. Shiv Sainiks are going on strike outside Shiv Sena office at many places. Shiv Sainiks are demonstrating in support of Sanjay Raut in Nashik. Slogans are being raised against ED and BJP. Under the leadership of Shiv Sena leaders Chandrakant Khaire and Ambadas Danve, there is a strong protest against the ED action in Aurangabad. Where hundreds of Shiv Sainiks have descended on the road.
