Dehradun. Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress President Karan Mahra has strongly objected to the expenditure of Rs 20 crore in the four walls of Haldwani Zoo by the Forest Department without the permission of the “National Zoo Authority”.
Karan Mahra said that the State Government should immediately take cognizance of the wasteful expenditure and negligence being done by the Forest Department in spending the vehicle earnings of the general public and the tax payer’s money. Mahra said that the Forest Department of Uttarakhand is always surrounded by controversies, so the “National Zoo Authority” has not yet given permission for Haldwani’s “Haldwani Zoo” to be built at a cost of Rs 80 crore.
But the officials of the department have built the boundary wall of “Haldwani Zoo” with a budget of Rs 20 crore, while the issue of permission of the zoo has been hanging in the balance since 2015 in the “National Zoo Authority”. On the basis of the above facts, Mahra said that the officials spent Rs 20 crore on the four walls of Haldwani Zoo without permission at the behest of whom. Mahra said that the construction of the International Zoo in Haldwani’s Gaulapar has been hanging in the balance for the last eight years. In such a situation, the matter of wasteful expenditure of 20 crores from the Forest Department without any decision has come to the notice.
Mahara has expected the state government to take cognizance of the matter and take strict action against the officials involved as the state is already facing dire economic conditions. Mahara said that the state which is under the burden of thousands of crores, such wasteful expenditure is unbelievably tolerated.
