Kotdwar. In Uttarakhand’s Pauri district, there are unconfirmed reports of the death of 28 people after a bus full of processions fell into a deep gorge late Tuesday evening. This bus accident happened near Simdi village under Dhumakote area. The reason for the bus being uncontrolled is being told that its leash is broken. Work is on to retrieve the bodies from a ditch about 200 meters deep. SDRF has been sent to the spot. This bus had left for Kanda village of Birkhal after taking a procession from Laldhang in Haridwar.
At the time of the accident, a bus full of processions was going from Laldhang Haridwar to Karagaon, Pauri. It is being told that about 45 people were in the bus at the time of the accident. The bus had left from Laldhang on Tuesday afternoon. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami camped under control as soon as he got the information about this big accident. Teams of police, doctors were immediately dispatched to the spot. The CM has canceled all his programs for October 5.
As soon as the incident was reported, Lansdowne MLA Dilip Rawat informed the district police and administration. Police teams have been dispatched from nearby police stations. The MLA said that a procession bus from Laldhang area of Haridwar district was going to Kanda Malla village of Birkhal. The bus fell into a ditch near the village. By around 9:30 pm, around eight injured were brought to the road by local villagers who have been sent to Birkhal Community Hospital.
Regional MLA Mahant Dilip Rawat expressed deep grief over the accident and said that as soon as the information about the accident was received, DM, SSP were asked to take immediate action. Relief and rescue work is being done by the police-administration, but due to darkness, the rescue team is facing problems. Pauri District Magistrate Dr. Vijay Kumar Jogdande and SSP Yashwant Singh Chauhan have also left for the spot. MLA Rawat told that he himself is keeping an eye on the whole matter.
Dhumakote SHO Deepak Tiwari said that people of the villages near the spot informed the villagers about the incident by phone when the bus lights were suddenly switched off. As soon as the information was received, people ran towards the spot. The police team under the leadership of Kotdwar CO GL Kohli has also left for the spot from Kotdwar. By around 9:30 pm, eight injured were pulled out of the ditch.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached the disaster control room at Secretariat late on Tuesday evening after receiving information about the bus accident in Pauli district. The Chief Minister took detailed information about the accident from the officials.
The Chief Minister spoke to DM Pauli over phone and instructed him to carry out relief and rescue work with utmost vigilance. The Chief Minister directed the officers of the State Disaster Control Room to keep a constant vigil on the situation and be in constant touch with the district officials. Said that all possible help should be provided from the government level.
In connection with the bus accident, the Chief Minister also spoke to MLA Lansdowne over the phone and got complete information about the situation. Terming the bus accident as unfortunate, the Chief Minister has directed to make arrangements for all possible treatment of the injured and speed up the relief and rescue operations with coordination.
The Chief Minister directed the Secretary, Disaster Dr. Ranjit Sinha that the disaster management system should be operated continuously and the disaster situation should be kept under constant watch. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also received the updated status of the incident in Uttarkashi. In view of these accidents, the Chief Minister has postponed all the programs proposed before yesterday.
