West Bengal : NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu has won the election for the post of President, after which she will become the 15th President of the country. With this, she will be the first tribal woman president of the country. The special thing is that Draupadi Murmu was supported by many parties other than NDA. Legislators and MPs of many opposition parties, across party lines, voted in favor of Draupadi Murmu through cross voting.
West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee is believed to be the biggest setback regarding cross voting in the presidential election. In fact, she is engaged in uniting the entire opposition against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in view of the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Talked with many parties to keep the opposition united even in the presidential election. At the same time, BJP is claiming cross voting of 2 MPs and 1 MLA of Mamta Banerjee’s party.
2 Trinamool Congress MPs and 1 MLA did cross voting!
BJP leader Amit Malviya has claimed in a tweet that 2 MPs and 1 MLA of Mamata Banerjee’s party ‘Trinamool Congress’ have cross-voted in favor of Draupadi Murmu. Along with this, the votes of two Trinamool Congress MPs and 4 MLAs have also been canceled. On the other hand, Amit Malviya took a jibe and said that Mamta Banerjee, who has given the basis of opposition unity, had failed in cultivating her own MLA-MPs.
Massive cross voting in favor of Draupadi Murmu
There was tremendous cross voting in favor of Draupadi Murmu in West Bengal as well as in many other states. Claiming on behalf of BJP, it has been told that 125 MLAs and 17 MPs cross-voted in favor of Draupadi Murmu. According to media reports, opposition MLAs and MPs in other states including Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Jharkhand cross-voted in favor of Draupadi Murmu.
