Martyr’s Day is considered very special for Mamta Banerjee. On this day, she pays homage to the activists killed during the movement during the Left Front rule.
Let me tell you, on July 21, 1993, CPI(M) leader Jyoti Basu was the Chief Minister of the state and after student politics, Mamata Banerjee stepped into the mainstream of Bengal politics and she was the President of Youth Congress of Bengal. On this day 13 Congress workers were shot dead by West Bengal Police during a protest rally organized by Youth Congress led by Mamata.
In fact, through this rally organized under the leadership of Mamta Banerjee, there was a demand to implement the photo voter card to bring transparency in the elections. The police opened fire on this rally, in which 13 Congress workers were killed. This incident proved to be a turning point in Mamata Banerjee’s political career. After the incident of firing, people’s sympathy for Mamta Banerjee spread all over West Bengal.
A fast-rising West Bengal politician, Mamata Banerjee formed her own party, the Trinamool Congress, four years after the firing incident. Under his leadership, this party came to power in West Bengal in 2011 with an absolute majority. At the same time, Mamta Banerjee celebrates Martyr’s Day on this day every year by organizing a rally in memory of her workers killed in the incident.
Through the rally, Mamta Banerjee also reveals the next strategy every time on 21 July. This year, Trinamool Congress is organizing a big event on Martyrs’ Day, as the rally could not be organized for the last two years due to Corona epidemic safety measures.
At the same time, for the Bengal Panchayat elections, everyone’s eyes are going to be on what Mamata Banerjee gives to the workers and the public regarding national politics. It is also being said that she can announce a formal strategy by taking BJP candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar for the post of Vice President.
